An Introduction to the New Testament

Study all twenty-seven books of the New Testament with a standard evangelical introduction, and learn to read, preach and teach them in their first setting.

The course follows Carson and Moo's An Introduction to the New Testament. Book by book, you look at what each book contains, who wrote it, when and where, to whom and why, and what it adds to the message of the whole Bible. You also learn how the New Testament has been studied through the centuries, how scholars debate questions of authorship and date, and how to weigh those debates fairly.

What you will study

  • How the New Testament text came down to us, and how it has been studied
  • The four Gospels and the relations between the first three
  • Acts and the spread of the early church
  • Paul: his life, his letters and his thought
  • Hebrews, the letters of James, Peter, John and Jude, and Revelation
  • Authorship, date and purpose, and the debate about letters written in another's name
  • How the church came to recognise the twenty-seven books as its canon
