- OT Wisdom and Poetry
Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs give God's people words for suffering and joy, work and death, prayer and love. Learn to read them well.
Following OT Wisdom and Poetry, this course reads each book by its own kind of writing and hears them as one choir, held together by the fear of the LORD. Each book is paired with a chapter that follows it into the New Testament, where Christ is the wisdom of God, the one who prays the Psalms, the Bridegroom and the risen firstfruits. You also learn to test a proverb used as a promise, to answer someone who blames a sufferer, and to help a church hold lament and praise together.
What you will study
- The fear of the LORD: the root of all wisdom
- Proverbs: wise living, read as general truth, not as a promise
- Job: innocent suffering, and the God who answers
- The Psalms: Israel's prayer book, from lament to praise, prayed by Christ
- Ecclesiastes: life as vapor, and work not in vain because Christ is risen
- The Song of Songs: love, desire and the love of Christ for his church
- Christ the wisdom of God, and the wise life today
