Churches, schools and clinics decide with numbers every week. Learn to gather, describe and read data honestly, and to draw careful conclusions from them.

This course follows the OpenStax textbook Introductory Business Statistics. It moves from how good data are gathered and judged, through describing data with graphs and numbers, to chance, estimates and tests. The mathematics is modest: small tables, worked by hand. It has no Christian textbook of its own: you bring the Christian view from your earlier studies, such as honest measures, the dignity of every person behind the numbers and humble trust in God.

What you will study

  • What data are and how they are gathered
  • Judging whether data can be trusted
  • Describing data with graphs and numbers
  • How two things move together
  • Chance and probability
  • Estimates from samples, and testing a claim with care
  • Designing and reporting a small, honest study

Course materials

  • Introductory Business Statistics 2e, an OpenStax textbook
