- Evangelical Theology (Bird); with Erickson, McGrath and Bloesch
Study who we are as human beings, who Jesus Christ is and what he has done, and what salvation means, so that you can preach, teach and care for people with clarity.
The course follows Michael F. Bird's Evangelical Theology, which works out each doctrine from the gospel itself. You read it beside chapters of three other systematic theologies. For each topic you look at the biblical basis, weigh the main views in the church's history, and ask what it means today.
What you will study
- Humanity as God's royal image, and the human person as body and soul
- The nature, effects and origin of sin, and the problem of evil
- How to study Jesus, and how the Old Testament points to him
- The life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus, and the main views of the atonement
- Jesus as truly God and truly human, one person in two natures
- Salvation: the story of redemption, the order of salvation, and images such as justification, reconciliation and adoption
- The scope and security of salvation, and how to use these doctrines in ministry
